5 Days of Action
Collapsible
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. As part of our commitment to protecting the children in our community, we’re participating in the Five Days of Action® - a week-long Y-USA campaign to increase awareness of child sexual abuse and empower and equip us all to prevent it. This will take place April 21st - 25th and by taking part in this important campaign and implementing abuse prevention practices year-round, Fremont Family YMCA is committing to the safety of all children in our community.
Know
When evaluating camps, sports, and other activities for your child, do you KNOW what questions to ask about abuse prevention? As parents, caregivers, and trusted adults, we play a vital role in protecting children and teens from abuse. Learn the key questions to ask from Praesidium, the YMCA's partner in child abuse prevention by clicking here.
See
When we SEE grooming patterns—methodical, subtle, gradual, and escalating behaviors used to groom a child for sexual abuse—we can identify them, strengthen our intuition, and protect children. Learn the 6 grooming behaviors every parent or caregiver needs to know and what to do if you see them, from our partner, Saprea by clicking here.
Respond
RESPONDing starts when a child or teen feels heard and is helped. How can you take action to prevent child sexual abuse? The Trusted Triangle (for younger children) and the Safety NETwork (for older youth) are strategies from Lauren’s Kids Safer, Smarter Families Family Safety Toolkit. These resources are designed to help families and caregivers teach personal and digital safety in a comfortable and accessible way.

Special Olympics
Collapsible
We are blessed to have our partnership with the Fremont YMCA which offers our athletes a chance to improve their physical fitness and wellness with access to the best facilities around. Right now there are nearly 65 athletes that compete in a number of sports. On the Fremont Family YMCA campus, our athletes get to practice on the indoor tennis courts when the weather is bad and get their competitive swimming laps in the only Olympic-sized pool in the area. Additionally, we utilize the basketball courts during the basketball season to work on our team skills and 5 on 5 teamwork. For over 10 years now, the Fremont YMCA has hosted the East Region basketball championships in late February. In the spring we work on volleyball to get ready for our competitions in April/May. The scholarship program that our athletes can take advantage of also allows our flag football, golf, and track athletes access to weight and cardio machines plus free weights to improve their strength, stamina, and flexibility in order to be the best athlete they can be.
If you are interested in becoming a Fremont Special Olympics athlete or want to become involved in our program you can find out even more information by reaching us at www.facebook.com/SpecialOlympicsFremont or shoot us an email at piercy92068@hotmail.com or you can even give us a call/text at 402-720-3121 and speak with Cory Piercy, Head of Delegation.

YMCA's 1st Grade Learn to Swim
Collapsible
The YMCA is providing every first grader in the Fremont Public School system with the opportunity to learn to swim as part of their physical education. Through the generosity of the YMCA, we cover the cost of instructors and provide swimsuits for children who don't have one. At the end of the program, each child also receives a towel. Last year, over 350 children participated in this initiative.
The YMCA believes it is crucial for every child to learn how to swim. In the United States, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death among children aged 1–14 years.
